The most poetic city of Crete leaves you with a pleasant taste of beauty when you walk through.
Built on the ruins of Cydonia has seen and survived many invaders, but also tasted civilizations that their marks on building faces, castles, walls, antiquities, monasteries and churches

The city has two entrances:airport in Akrotiri and the port of Souda (the largest in the Mediterranean). Dominant position in the center holds the municipal market, a brilliant cross-shaped building that was completed in 1913, the analogue of Marseille.

In walking distance from the center of the city awaits the Public Garden and adjacent to the Park of Peace and Friendship between peoples. The gardens are the prettiest in Crete, and also the public garden offers a small zoo with animals from Cretan fauna.

The Venetian port picturesque any time and season is attractive to visitors and locals, both for its beauty and for the choices of entertainment for all tastes and demands. The old city "intramural" districts preserve their Venetian nobility.Narrow paved alleys are surrounded with tasteful renewed houses of various ages, ideal for a leisurely stroll. Many neoclassic houses are also saved in districts which "neighbor" with the city of Chania, like Halepa.

The City of Chania is built according to archaeological research on the ancient ruins of Cydonia, which according to mythology founded Kydon and is mentioned by Homer as one of the most important cities of Crete, while Kydonians considered prehellenic sex.The ancient writers consider Cydonia "mother of the other Cretan cities."
There are many theories regarding the etymology of the placename in the city. According to mythology, is the founder of Kydon son of Minos and the nymph Akakkalidos.Probably also a corruption of the name chthonic was one of the ancient names of Crete, Chania come. According to another story from the Arabian Hani or from alchania komi (suburb or neighborhood of Cydonia)
